Mathematics
At Queniborough, we follow the White Rose Maths scheme to deliver a rich, engaging, and carefully sequenced mathematics curriculum. This approach helps our pupils develop deep understanding, confidence, and fluency in maths through small, manageable steps and consistent practice.
White Rose Maths supports mastery learning, encouraging children to reason, problem-solve, and make connections across mathematical concepts. With a strong emphasis on visual representations and real-life contexts, our lessons are designed to be inclusive, challenging, and enjoyable for all learners.
Our curriculum lead for Mathematics is Mrs Sharpe.
Aims
- Ensuring Every Child Succeeds in Maths
The scheme is designed to help all pupils build a solid understanding of mathematical concepts, enabling them to progress confidently and independently. - Focusing on Deep Learning
Rather than rushing through topics, it encourages pupils to explore ideas thoroughly, ensuring they grasp the 'why' behind the methods. - Balancing Key Skills
Lessons are structured to develop:
- Fluency: quick and accurate recall of facts
- Reasoning: explaining and justifying answers
- Problem Solving: applying maths in real-world and unfamiliar contexts
- Promoting a Positive Mindset. It fosters a love for maths by encouraging perseverance, resilience, and a belief that everyone can succeed with effort and support. - Structured and Progressive Curriculum
The content is carefully sequenced into manageable steps, helping pupils build on prior knowledge and make meaningful connections. - Collaborative and Research-Informed
Developed with input from educators and based on best practices from around the world, the scheme aims to raise standards and close gaps in attainment.
